Precise ceramic restorations with CEREC technology
Digital scans can make the early steps of a crown, inlay, or onlay feel simpler and more comfortable. At Desert Willow Dental in Glendale, CEREC technology supports the design of custom ceramic restorations that are planned to fit your tooth and your bite.
Dr. Crane is CDOCS CEREC certified in digital dentistry, and our team uses that training to guide your care. For many patients, a quick digital scan takes the place of messy impression material.

What is CEREC?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It pairs a digital scanner with computer-aided design to help plan and design ceramic restorations.
Your dentist captures a digital impression of your tooth using a small handheld scanner. The CEREC software then builds a precise 3D model on screen. The model guides the fabrication of your restoration. Because the design starts from a detailed digital record, the final piece can be made to match your prepared tooth closely.

What CEREC is used for
CEREC can support several types of ceramic restorations:
- Dental crowns: cover and protect a tooth that is cracked, worn, or heavily filled.
- Dental inlays and onlays: repair damage within or across the chewing surface when a filling may not be enough.
- Bridges on natural teeth: replace a missing tooth by anchoring to neighboring teeth.
CEREC supports the design phase of these restorations. Your restoration is then fabricated to match your natural tooth color and shape. If your dentist needs a closer look at surrounding structures, CBCT cone beam imaging may also be part of your planning.

What to expect
Every case is different, but a CEREC visit often follows these steps. First, your dentist prepares the tooth. Next, a small wand scans it digitally, which replaces traditional putty impressions. The scan feeds into the CEREC software, where your dentist designs your restoration.
Your restoration is then fabricated. At a follow-up visit, your dentist checks the fit and bonds the final piece in place. We explain each step before we begin, so you know what to expect.
