Restore and protect a damaged tooth
Dental crowns at Desert Willow Dental can help restore teeth weakened by decay, cracks, or large fillings, so you can chew and smile with more confidence. A crown covers the entire visible portion of the tooth, adding strength and a natural appearance.
Dr. Russell Crane and Dr. Amanda Pharo care for patients in Glendale with a patient-focused approach. Dr. Crane is trained in restorative dentistry and is CEREC certified, which supports efficient digital crown planning.

When a dental crown may be recommended
A dental crown may be recommended when a tooth needs more support than a small repair can give. Common reasons include:
- After root canal therapy, to protect a tooth that may be more fragile
- A severely decayed tooth that has lost much of its structure
- A large, failing filling that no longer holds up well
- Over a dental implant restoration, as the visible part of the new tooth
- A cracked tooth that needs protection from further damage
- A misshapen tooth, to improve its shape
A dental filling works for small damage. A crown is for cases where more coverage is needed. Crowns can also anchor dental bridges when a tooth is missing.

The dental crown process
Most cases take two visits. Here is what to expect:
- Exam and X-rays. We check the tooth and the bone around it.
- Tooth shaping. We numb the area and gently shape the tooth to make room for the crown.
- Impression or digital scan. We capture the exact shape of your tooth and bite.
- Temporary crown. A temporary crown protects the tooth while you wait.
- Lab fabrication. A lab creates your permanent crown, matched to your natural tooth color.
- Final crown. At your follow-up visit, we check the fit and bond the final crown in place.
CEREC technology supports digital planning, which helps us design a crown that fits your smile.

Caring for your dental crown
A crown needs the same daily care as your natural teeth. Brush and floss normally, and take extra care along the gumline where the crown meets the tooth. Avoid chewing ice or other hard objects, which can chip or loosen a crown.
Regular dental visits let us check the crown and the tooth beneath it. With good care, a well-maintained crown can last many years. If a crown feels loose or uneven, call us so we can take a look.
